Your visit to the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum at 1701 South Bridge Street in Brady, Texas, is a musical journey that traces the history of not only Texas Country Music, but the entire Country Music Industry.

Over 100 artists are represented in the museum with stage costumes, musical instruments, autographs, posters and other memorabilia highlighting Country Music's colorful past. Of special interest to various collectors are pieces designed by some of the greatest tailors in the business including Nudie, Harvey Krantz, Nathan Turk among others.

The idea for the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum began with our very first collectable piece-a Rose Maddox gold and rhinestone dress made by Nathan Turk. As Rose Maddox stated in the letter with the dress "This dress was worn by Rose Maddox in the 1950's and was designed by Nathan Turk Rodeo Tailor. It is the last one that I have."

KNEL disc jockey Tracy Pitcox began collecting various stage costumes from several entertainers in the industry. About 80% of our collection was donated by the artists or the artists family. Several pieces have been purchased out of estates from entertainers including Jim Reeves, Minnie Pearl, Patsy Cline, Faron Young, Dottie West, Roy Acuff, the Wilburn Brothers, Ernest Tubb, Speck Rhodes and Grandpa Jones among others.

"We were housing all the costumes and other posters, photos and memorabilia from these legendary figures at our office location," Tracy Pitcox said. "We decided we needed a building."

Local businessman Billy Jackson donated a lot on South Bridge Street in Brady in memory of his wife Peggy Jackson.

Volunteers began collecting donations and construction began on the 1200 square foot white limestone building. The entire building was built debt free and after a two-year drive and under the expert guidance of contractor Harry Mitchell, the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum was officially opened on August 5, 2000.

Kitty Wells and Johnny Wright broke ground on the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum. Leona Williams, Darrell McCall, Dave Kirby, Big Bill Lister, Frankie Miller, Johnny Moore, Al Dean, David McCormick, Justin Trevino and Ron Williams participated in the ribbon cutting.

The Heart of Texas Country Music Museum is run by the 1,000 member Heart of Texas Country Music Association. The volunteers keep the museum open every weekend and admission is always free.

"We are indebted to so many volunteers and financial contributors," Pitcox said. "We had a dream and so many people helped us to honor our rich Country Music Heritage.

Group and bus tours are always welcome. The museum can also be seen by making an appointment throughout the week.
